Katie Castelain is very excited to be joining our Kindergarten classroom as the Support Teacher. Katie was born and raised in Orlando, Florida, and has exhibited a deep passion for the arts for as long as she can remember. At an early age, she displayed her imaginative and artistic tendencies by using modeling clay to sculpt animals; and as time went on, she progressed in her knowledge and understanding of the arts, becoming interested in different varieties of art forms, including ceramics, drawing, painting, and photography. In her studies, Katie loved learning about the different styles artists used to create their masterpieces and how they accomplished these styles.
Unsurprisingly, Katie continued to pursue her love for art, and earned her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Central Florida in 2010. During her time there, she studied different types of art and artists, and gained knowledge of different artistic styles, as well as the specific rules that apply to the creation of various art forms. Katie felt inspired to pass on her knowledge of the arts, and depth of technique in the arts, to a new generation so she turned her attention to the teaching of art, and went on to earn her Master’s Degree at the University of Central Florida in Art Education in 2012. Here she learned how to work closely with students to instill in them a deep appreciation and understanding for the arts.
For three years, Katie worked in Clearwater, Florida where she taught Visual Art to elementary students grade K-5. She has recently moved to Austin and is very thrilled to have the opportunity to continue providing students with an appreciation for the arts. Katie is recently engaged and is excited to be getting married in the Austin area.
