Dear IST Families,
It is with a great deal of optimism that I share with you that the Board of Trustees voted to approve “IST Together” — our comprehensive plan to reopen IST for in-person learning (with a remote option) starting on Tuesday, September 8.
The hallmark of an IST education is the interaction, collaboration, and shared dynamic energy that occurs in our classrooms. It is our top priority to provide a safe environment on campus for our students to grow and thrive as learners and leaders. With that in mind, we have developed IST Together, which includes extensive health and safety protocols based on guidance from top experts in the fields of pediatrics, public health, and education. We are continually revising and updating IST Together to reflect changing circumstances and guidance. The latest version of our reopening plan may always be downloaded using the link below.
For IST Together to be successful, we must collectively commit to protecting the health of our IST community. I have seen how our existing families came together at the end of the last school year. I have talked to so many of our new families about their desire to be part of a community where their children can thrive as learners. And, I have no doubt that the IST community will rise to the occasion.
For the 2020-21 school year, we are adding “Reopening Safety Fee” of $485 per student. We recognize that this is a significant amount. However, as a nonprofit school, sharing this cost with our families enables IST to implement the numerous safety / health protocols and enhancements detailed in the IST Together plan without making significant cuts to staffing or our curriculum. The Reopening Safety Fee is due on September 1.
Lastly, we understand that some of our families may not feel comfortable coming on campus for school at this time. And, for them, we are delighted to provide a remote learning option with the shared goal of continuing each remote student’s education until we are all physically together again.
I know that things will look and feel different. And, I know that there will be challenges. But I also know that our return to school is an incredible victory for all of us, but especially for our students. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Go, IST Trailblazers!
