Dear Parents and Friends:

At IST, we prioritize the safety and well-being of our students and their families above all else.  To that end, IST canceled instruction for the day of Friday, March 13, 2020, in light of the rapidly evolving information about the spread of COVID-19 around the world and specifically, here in Austin.

As an IB World school, IST has always embraced different modalities of learning to permit international travel and distance learning for our students.  As such, IST is uniquely poised to implement our distance learning plans to protect our students and their families during this time.  We are raising the leaders of tomorrow – and we believe that staying calm and being responsible during a time of legitimate concern is an important life lesson to impart to them.  Together, we are better.

IST’s spring break will remain as scheduled from March 16-20, 2020, and will also include one additional day, March 23, 2020.  On Tuesday, March 24, 2020, IST students will “Login to IST” by engaging in the distance learning curriculum and materials their teachers have provided.

IST students are analytical, inquisitive, and ready to solve any problem with which they are presented.  We have the utmost confidence in their ability to show us just how fun distance learning can be!  In fact, we are excited to see what creative solutions they come up with as they work together in a flexible way, connected by online classroom materials, video check-ins with their teachers, and even Zoom recess breaks to chat with their friends.

If you have not picked up your child’s distance learning materials, you may pick them up from campus next week, between the hours of 10AM-2PM.  Please email Charissa Bates, [email protected], to schedule a time.

Teachers will be emailing parents on Monday with a Zoom call for a videoconference where they outline the learning plan for your child’s grade.  Be on the lookout for the email with login information.

IST is, as always, grateful to its amazingly talented faculty and staff, who have risen to the challenge presented to them with grace and good humor.  Overall, our students and faculty alike are excited to Log into IST and make some magic while we keep our responsible distance and stay in our homes.

We are monitoring the situation and will continue to update you as needed.  In the meantime, we encourage you to curate the type of information your children are receiving from TV and social media and to reassure them that they are safe and protected as we worth together to maintain our social distance in an effort to stem the spread of the Coronavirus.

We are here for you to help you address any questions or concerns.  Thank you for being a part of our IST family. You can find a list of FAQ’s regarding this time here.
