We are proud to say that IST students matriculate into some of the top middle schools both locally and globally. As a school, we prepare our dynamic students for their next step in obtaining a top-tier education; middle school. This process commences as soon as they walk through our doors for the first time. Our balanced program helps to prepare our students for a wide range of schools.

We begin counseling our students and parents in 4th grade to help determine middle schools that fit their educational expectations, as a family. After both students and parents research schools they feel fit this expectation, 4th grade families meet with our head of school and director of admissions to begin the process of matriculation.

While IST has relationships with the top private middle schools in Austin, we encourage families to begin attending open houses as early as possible so families have time to find their best fit. The head of school will also begin working on interview skills for our 5th grade students. Our students actively begin the formal process of matriculation in September of their 5th grade year, by attending open houses and visit days, along with participating in interviews, at their schools of interest. Students will then take the ISEE (Independent School Entrance Exam) in December or January. Most schools will send responses to application toward the beginning of March.

This has been a very exciting week in music class!

On Monday we had special guest musicians Emma Dean and Eddie Dickerson perform for us during assembly. They were even able to stay and have a ukulele “jam session” with G4 and G5. The students had a chance to explore Mr. Flowers’ primary instrument, the double bass. The students did an excellent job learning the basics of how to play the instrument, and were even open-minded enough to try it themselves!

Students also took some time this week to learn about the life and work of Tom Petty, to appreciate the contributions he made to music during his lifetime.

Around the world and at IST we celebrate World Cerebral Palsy Day! Our Grade 3 students have been reading "Out of My Mind", an inspirational story of a child with Cerebral Palsy. Our student trailblazers decided to take action by organizing a whole school "Wear Green Day" to show support and unity for those who have CP. From our school to everyone with CP you are an inspiration and shining example of courage and commitment to never giving up!

Take a look at this amazing World Cerebral Palsy Day video recognizing trailblazers around the globe with CP!

We had such a busy week of learning! Most classrooms have just finished their first unit of inquiry and will be moving on to their 2nd unit of inquiry on Tuesday.

Take a look at our Grade 2 summative assessment, where they presented the inventions they have been working on. By the looks of it, we have some trailblazing inventors on our hands!
