STEM Inquiry Lab

STEM Inquiry Lab

To best prepare students for our ever changing global world, IST is proud to introduce the STEM Inquiry Lab. The lab will be utilized by Early Childhood- Grade 5 IST students to provide them with enriching science, technology, engineering, and mathematics focused curriculum. The Inquiry Lab serves as a student centered classroom that encourages collaboration between students.

In the lab, students will be provided with problem based learning opportunities that allow them to develop solutions to real world problems. Instruction in the Inquiry Lab will focus on topics relevant to today’s technology centered world and will incorporate the engineering process to ensure that students are able to define problems, conduct research, develop and design solutions, build and test models, and evaluate outcomes all while documenting their process.

The goal of the Inquiry Lab is to provide students with confidence in experimentation and investigation. Students will learn to understand that failure is more than an option in the lab, it’s a requirement. Students will learn that each time they do not succeed, they’re reinforcing their engineering and perseverance skills to become better problem solvers.

Currently, the work force is lacking candidates with adequate presentation, problem solving, and writing skills. IST STEM and IT instruction will address these areas and ensure that students receive developmentally appropriate training to prepare them for a workforce that is expecting 1.4 million new jobs in STEM fields in the next five years alone.

The Inquiry Lab has been equipped with SmartBoard technology, a Lego wall, Lego Mindstorm and Lego WeDo robotics kits, programable Bee Bots, Makey Makey interactive circuit boards, Little Bits magnetic snap circuits, solar robots, 3D pen technology, and our brand new Creator Pro Flashforge 3D printer.

We look forward to immersing our students in such a creative and inspiring new space here in the IST Inquiry Lab.

IST Trailblazer Speaker Series: William Kamkwamba

This is IST!

This is IST!

For International Day of Peace, IST students participated in many exciting events throughout the day!

Our classrooms celebrated by creating magnificent pieces of art, some classrooms wrote inspirational quotes about tolerance around our play area, many of our students participated in mindfulness moments around our peace pole, and our youngest learners even planted a peace garden!

It was an amazing day filled with reflection, friendship and promoting the IB attitude of tolerance!

Check out this science exploration in Grade 5!

During their first "Unit of Inquiry", trailblazers are inquiring into how human rights vary with place and time. Students are making connections, and using their research skills during this science inquiry to look at the basic human need of water. In this collaborative project our Grade 5 class is designing, creating, testing, and improving water wells.

IST is celebrating International Dot Day!

This week IST trailblazers read The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds.

During their mindfulness exercises, trailblazers reflected on the mark they have made in the world. They also reflected on how they can continue to make their mark by taking action to positively change the world around us. These future leaders continue to demonstrate compassion, tolerance, and courage on a daily basis. What a great community of learners we have here at IST!

Take a look at some of our International Dot Day projects!

In art, students used their imagination to make some very creative dot pieces.

Our Early Childhood classroom even joined in the fun during a collaborative sensory play & paint activity! This popular classroom is almost full! Interested in securing a spot in our Early Childhood 1 (ages 2-3) or Early Childhood 2 (ages 3-4) Program for 2018-2019 school year? Contact us today: admissions@istexas.org
