Cathy Chadwick was born in Toronto, Canada. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Art History from the University of Toronto, a Master of Arts in Art History from McGill University, and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Toronto. She has taught English, History, Geography, Math, Drama and Art to middle school students in Toronto. She has also taught English, History and Geography to 7th-10th grade students at St. Lawrence College, a British private school in Athens, Greece.
Cathy moved to Austin in 1998 with her family when her husband was hired to the Art History department at the University of Texas. She has three children who are now 21, 19 and 15 years old. For the past three years Cathy has taught first through fifth grade at Austin Eco Bilingual School, an authorized IB PYP school in Southwest Austin.
Cathy is very excited to be joining IST this year, and is looking forward to helping with the development of the middle school curriculum. She feels strongly that children should receive a well-rounded education that encourages them to be open-minded and engaged in their world. It is important that children appreciate and have respect for all the earth’s resources, and that we grow together to be good global citizens. By learning to be both thoughtful individuals and good communicators, we hope they will be equipped to become the problem solvers of the next generation.
When not at school, Cathy enjoys reading, gardening, and singing in her church choir. In addition to a husband and three children, Cathy looks after two cats, five chickens, and about 10,000 bees.
