Frequently Asked Questions
What time does school begin?
Parents may drop off their children as early as 7:55 a.m. and should be here no later than 8:15 a.m. so the children may be escorted to their classroom. Our learning begins each day at 8:20 a.m. sharp as we believe a brisk start to the school day is of great importance.
What time does school end?
Our learning day ends at 3:30 p.m. and many of our children participate in our after-school Trailblazer Club which concludes at 5:00 p.m. Homework assistance is offered from 5:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Do you have after-school care?
Our Club Trailblazer after-school program is available from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. for an additional fee. Drop-in care is also available for $30 a day.

Do we need to pack a lunch?
Our healthy eating program is part of our school curriculum and philosophy, therefore school lunches and snacks are included in your tuition. The lunch time is used to introduce the children to new and healthy eating alternatives as well as to encourage a wide and varied palate. For this reason, no food is to be brought into the school (unless discussed with the School Nurse and brought as part of a needed supplementation due to dietary restrictions) and all meals are served family style.
What if my child is a picky eater?
By serving the children family-style at lunch, it encourages even the pickiest of eaters to try new things alongside their peers. You might be surprised to find out your child will actually want to try a brussel sprout with their friends and the encouragement of their teachers! We do not force children to clean their plate, only that they try new things. We serve a variety of food items each day, including a fresh salad so everyone can generally find something that is appealing.
What if we have special dietary requirements?
Many of our families will have special dietary requirements at one time or another, whether it be a need for gluten-free, a food allergy or for religious observation. For any special dietary requirements we ask that you inform our School Nurse. Because of the variety we provide, we can generally accommodate most requests. If we cannot, we will allow you to provide some additional food items for supplementation that the School Nurse will serve at appropriate snack and meal times.
What type of school supplies or additional materials does my child need to bring?
Our tuition is inclusive of all school supplies. The only purchase you will have to make will be your school uniforms. We also ask your child to bring a hat for play-time (we have a “no hat, no play” policy), a water bottle to keep them properly hydrated and a backpack.
At what age do the children begin learning Spanish and Mandarin?
Early Childhood- Grade 5 partake in 4 Spanish classes per week.
Kindergarten-Grade 5 also participate in Mandarin classes 4x per week.
What is an International School?
An International School is a school that promotes international education, in an international environment, either by adopting a philosophy such as that of the International Baccalaureate or by following a national curriculum different from that of the school’s country of residence. These schools cater to students who are not nationals of the host country, such as the children of the staff of international businesses, international organizations, foreign embassies or other global enterprises. Of course, many local students attend these schools to access the advantages of an international school environment or to have a more global outlook of their world.
Our demographic makeup is approximately 30% international families and 70% local families who are involved in worldwide enterprises and desire a global education for their children. Many of our families are bilingual or polylingual at home and we enjoy a rich, cultural diversity that adds to our daily learning.
International School of Texas is final steps of International Baccalaureate accreditation (this is a three to five year process). Our primary curriculum is the United Kingdom’s National Curriculum.
Are you faith-based?
International School of Texas is an independent private school. We celebrate the many cultures that make up our world and the rich festivals and traditions that have come from those cultures and belief systems. As such, we enjoy a colorful, exciting holiday season each year while allowing the children to learn about the different celebrations, the beliefs behind them and to share with their classmates their personal family holidays in a fun, accepting environment. The end result is a greater understanding and tolerance of diversity and a bigger picture of our world.
Are you part of a chain or group of schools?
International School of Texas is completely independent and our Lake Travis location is the only location in which we operate. We are a non-profit 501(c)3 formed by educators, parents and leaders in the local and global business communities.
