Music, Performance, and Art

MUSIC AND PERFORMANCE
Music is a universal language that embodies one of the highest forms of creativity. A high-quality music education should engage and inspire children to develop a love of music and their talent as musicians, and to increase their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement. As children progress, they should develop a critical engagement with music, allowing them to compose and to listen, with discrimination, to the best in the musical canon. In Music children will:

  • Perform, listen to, review and evaluate music across a range of historical periods, genres, styles and traditions
  • Learn to sing and to use their voices and to create and compose music on their own and with others
  • Understand how music is created, produced and communicated
  • Interact with a wide range of musical instruments and develop an understanding of instrument families.

ART
Art, craft and design are an integral part of human creativity. A high-quality art and design education should engage, inspire and challenge children, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design. As children progress, they should be able to think critically and develop a more rigorous understanding of art and design. They should also know how art and design both reflect and shape our history, and contribute to the culture, creativity and wealth of our nation. In art children will:

  • Produce creative work, exploring their ideas and recording their experiences
  • Become proficient in drawing, painting, sculpting and other art, craft and design techniques
  • Evaluate and analyze creative works using the language of art, craft and design
  • Know about great artists, craft makers and designers, and understand the historical and cultural development of their art forms

This is IST!

This is IST!

Today we are delighted to welcome KVUE and Mace Massingill - Hunger Fighter to IST!

Our student leaders of Malala House and Huger Captains, Leah and Arann-Ryan, have organized an incredible food drive here at International School of Texas. As you can see from the photo we gathered hundreds of food items to donate to the Central Texas Food Bank to help fight hunger this holiday season.

Taking action is an essential part of the IB program and is highly celebrated and encouraged at IST. Thank you student trailblazers for exhibiting the IB attitudes of empathy, appreciation, cooperation and commitment by taking action to help others in need. #nohunger

At IST we celebrate inclusivity, and diversity! One way we do this is through our frequent culture clubs. Today during culture club our advanced Spanish students were thrilled to present to the school (in Spanish) about Dia de los Muertos.

IST students were very enthusiastic about today's culture club, as they have been learning about trailblazer Pedro Infante and adding to our alter all throughout last week.

This year our school altar was in memory of Pedro Infante. He was a Mexican actor and singer who played the classical guitar, piano, violin, trumpet, and drums.

During Spanish, students ate “pan de muerto” (Day of the Dead bread), made decorations for the “altar de muertos”, and decorated “calaveras de azúcar” (sugar skulls). They also shared memories of their loved ones.

Take a peak into this incredible Art project our Grade 3 students are working on!

During their second Unit of Inquiry, our Grade 3 trailblazers are exploring the transdisciplinary theme of "How We Organize Ourselves". During this unit students are inquiring into how societies
can organize themselves through various forms of government.

For this art project the students are creating a "government official" inspired self-portrait from around the world. Our budding artists are beginning to finish up their outlines and will soon
start to paint the colors of their ancestral flag behind them.

What an excellent way to display the diversity within our dynamic school community!
