Music, Performance, and Art

MUSIC AND PERFORMANCE
Music is a universal language that embodies one of the highest forms of creativity. A high-quality music education should engage and inspire children to develop a love of music and their talent as musicians, and to increase their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement. As children progress, they should develop a critical engagement with music, allowing them to compose and to listen, with discrimination, to the best in the musical canon. In Music children will:

  • Perform, listen to, review and evaluate music across a range of historical periods, genres, styles and traditions
  • Learn to sing and to use their voices and to create and compose music on their own and with others
  • Understand how music is created, produced and communicated
  • Interact with a wide range of musical instruments and develop an understanding of instrument families.

ART
Art, craft and design are an integral part of human creativity. A high-quality art and design education should engage, inspire and challenge children, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design. As children progress, they should be able to think critically and develop a more rigorous understanding of art and design. They should also know how art and design both reflect and shape our history, and contribute to the culture, creativity and wealth of our nation. In art children will:

  • Produce creative work, exploring their ideas and recording their experiences
  • Become proficient in drawing, painting, sculpting and other art, craft and design techniques
  • Evaluate and analyze creative works using the language of art, craft and design
  • Know about great artists, craft makers and designers, and understand the historical and cultural development of their art forms

IST Trailblazer Speaker Series: William Kamkwamba

This is IST!

This is IST!

For International Day of Peace, IST students participated in many exciting events throughout the day!

Our classrooms celebrated by creating magnificent pieces of art, some classrooms wrote inspirational quotes about tolerance around our play area, many of our students participated in mindfulness moments around our peace pole, and our youngest learners even planted a peace garden!

It was an amazing day filled with reflection, friendship and promoting the IB attitude of tolerance!

IST is celebrating International Dot Day!

This week IST trailblazers read The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds.

During their mindfulness exercises, trailblazers reflected on the mark they have made in the world. They also reflected on how they can continue to make their mark by taking action to positively change the world around us. These future leaders continue to demonstrate compassion, tolerance, and courage on a daily basis. What a great community of learners we have here at IST!

Take a look at some of our International Dot Day projects!

In art, students used their imagination to make some very creative dot pieces.

Our Early Childhood classroom even joined in the fun during a collaborative sensory play & paint activity! This popular classroom is almost full! Interested in securing a spot in our Early Childhood 1 (ages 2-3) or Early Childhood 2 (ages 3-4) Program for 2018-2019 school year? Contact us today: admissions@istexas.org
